Chapter 4: Zain

I heard a scream from Keely’s house, and I looked out of my window. She was standing in front of her window, and she was looking out into my room. Oh crap…we could look into each other’s  rooms.
The moment I saw she was standing there, she moved out of my view, as if trying to make sure that I didn’t see her. Then I saw her parents come in. She didn’t look like either of them. They both had brown hair, while she had red hair, and their eyes were different colors. The mother’s were hazel, while her father’s were brown. They looked very worried, and I was partially worried too. What on earth made her scream?
After a few moments of exchanging words, her parents left, and I saw her lay down on her bed, turning up her music. I could just faintly hear it through the closed windows, and found out it was country music.
After a few minutes of just sitting at the window, looking into her bedroom, I decided to talk to her. I found a few little pebbles, and opened my window, aiming one of the pebbles at her window.
I tossed it, and heard a clink. I threw another one, trying to get Keely’s attention. After the fourth pebble she finally sat up, and walked to the window, looking at me. Her eyes got wide, and she opened the window hesitantly.
“Why were you throwing rocks at my window?” She called out.
“They weren’t rocks, they were pebbles,” I informed her. She smiled and laughed a bit.
“Anyway, why were you throwing them?” She asked again.
“What was the scream for?” I asked in return.
She turned a bit pink, and then said, “I scared myself.”
I got a funny feeling that she was lying. But I shook it off. “You okay, now?”
She nodded. “I’m fine. I feel pretty stupid though.”
I laughed. “I’m sure you won’t feel stupid for long, seeing the fact that you’re not stupid.”
“I can be.”
“Everyone can be, but you’re not stupid.”
And so the argument began. We were sitting at our windows for what seemed like hours, both of us smiling all the while. It was pretty funny.
After a while, she gave in, and we began asking each other random questions.
“What was your favorite thing to do when you were little?” She asked me.
I thought about it for a few seconds. “Watching the clouds.”
She laughed. I asked her the same question. “Walking through the forest at night.”
“What is your favorite color?” She asked.
“Dark blue,” I replied. “What is one thing that you want to do before you die?”
She looked down at the ground. “That’s a really tough one….”
“What, is there a lot that you want to do?”
“Yeah….” She twirled a few strands of her copper red hair around her pale finger. “I want to catch fireflies in a jar.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “That really sounds like fun.”
“I’ve never done it before,” She said looking up at me. “And the only place really that you can see fireflies is in a certain spot in the forest.”
“Where?” I asked. “Is it like a clearing or something?”
She nodded. “It’s somewhere about a mile from here deep in the forest. There’s just one clearing, and you can see the moon and the fireflies really well from there.”
“Interesting….” It sounded like a nice place. I’d have to go find it.
“Zain! Come down and help set up for dinner!” My mom called up the stairs.
“Do you have to go?” Keely asked me.
I nodded. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She smiled. “Ok. Bye.”
I shut my window, and watched as she shut hers, and she walked out of my view. I got up, walking out of my room and down the stairs, into the kitchen. My mom was standing at the stove, and my dad was sitting at the kitchen table, reading the paper.
“Hey, honey, who were you talking to?” My mom asked me as she stirred some soup.
I leaned against the counter. “I was talking to Keely.”
My dad looked up at me from the paper. “A girl?”
“Yes, Keely’s a girl,” I replied.
“How?” My dad asked me.
“She lives next door. We were talking from each other’s windows.”
My dad raised an eyebrow at me. “The windows, eh?”
“She’s in most of my classes, Dad. She’s really nice,” I stated.
Both my parents looked at each other with a certain look on their faces. I rolled my eyes. “She’s really not that bad.”
“We’ve met her parents already,” my dad said. Why did that matter?
“They seem nice,” my mom added. “But I’d like to meet this Keely.”
“Why?” I asked.
My mom shrugged. “I don’t know. I’d just like to know her. She lives next door, after all.”
I rolled my eyes. Nothing else was said on that subject.
this might not be the best chapter....but i hope everyone enjoys the story so far! ^.^
